What Are Wrinkle Relaxers?
Wrinkle relaxers, like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin®, are FDA-approved medications designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Injected by your practitioner into specific muscles of the face, these medications not only reverse the signs of aging, but they can also prevent them as well. The hope is for someone to remain, “looking like themselves for as long as possible,” so the earlier treatment is initiated, the better, as wrinkle relaxers target the underlying cause of fine line formation.

AfterHow Do They Work?
Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause the skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of unwanted facial lines. Wrinkle relaxers, like BOTOX® Cosmetic and Jeuveau® (our favorites at the office) work beneath the surface and temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults – to help them look visibly smoother. Their effects last approximately 4 months, but long term weakening of targeted muscles can occur as a result of repeated wrinkle relaxer injections.

At Faces in Bloom, we offer multiple wrinkle relaxing medications including BOTOX® Cosmetic and Jeuveau®. You will work in conjunction with your injection specialist to determine which wrinkle relaxer is the best fit for you.

Wrinkle relaxing medications can also be injected into the head/neck muscles to help with other issues such as TMJ or teeth grinding, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and migraines. Unfortunately, we do not inject for the treatment of migraines, nor do we accept insurance, at Faces in Bloom.
What to Expect at Your Appointment:
Wrinkle relaxer injections should have you in and out the door in 30 minutes or less. When you first arrive at your appointment, you will be greeted by your practitioner who will consult you on your desired treatment area(s). “Before photos” are taken on all of our patients upon arrival and prior to the administration of wrinkle relaxing injections. At Faces in Bloom, we are just as excited as you are to see results. After a thorough assessment, your practitioner will clean your face with a sterile alcohol wipe, as well as apply cold compression to reduce discomfort and swelling. Administration occurs with a fine needle and is well-tolerated by the patient. It is considered a “lunch break treatment” because it is quick, effective, and typically leaves no trace!
An important piece of information: the number of units that you require does not correlate with the amount of needle pokes you will receive. Units are a form of measurement regarding wrinkle relaxer dosage only.
How Much Downtime Should You Plan For?
After your BOTOX® Cosmetic or Jeuveau® treatment, you are able to resume your normal activities of daily life (with a few exceptions). Avoid laying flat, massaging the area, working out, and entering a hot tub or sauna for 4 hours after your injections.
How To Prepare for Your Treatment:
Preparation for your wrinkle relaxer treatment is minimal, but there are a few things that we ask of you. If possible, it is best if you arrive at the clinic with a clean face, free of makeup (if you are coming from work, we understand and will cleanse you appropriately when you arrive). Understand that the consumption of blood thinning medications and fluids, such as ibuprofen, caffeine, fish oil, Vitamin E, and alcohol, can increase your risk of bruising, although it is rare from this treatment. We ask that you drink lots of water and hydrate your skin. Dry skin is always more traumatized from injections.
When Will You See Results?
So you’ve received your wrinkle relaxer treatment… yay! Now the question is, “When will I start seeing results?” Wrinkle relaxers, like BOTOX® Cosmetic and Jeuveau®, take 10-14 days to kick-in, with optimal effects occurring two weeks after injection. Therefore, plan accordingly! You will want to receive your wrinkle relaxer injections 2-3 weeks before a big event or holiday.

How Much Do Wrinkle Relaxers Cost?
At Faces In Bloom, we offer competitive pricing on all of our wrinkle relaxers. One can purchase units with no commitment at $14/unit or enroll into our loyalty program and receive discounted $12 units. It is important to remember: you are not simply paying for the product itself (BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport, or Jeuveau®), but you are also paying for the knowledge and expertise of the injector who is conducting your service. On average, patients receive 30-60 units during one treatment session. The number of units required is dependent on the treatment area, the strength of the muscle causing the wrinkle, and the desired outcome.
